OUR PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES

1. EDUCATION-

A. SATURDAY EDUCATION AND FUN TIME (SEFT) The Saturday Education and Fun Time (SEF) project has been designed to target school children, in two separate groups, between the ages of 10-14 and 15 -18 years. Through the SEFT project we hope to engage 250 children and youth within a period of 18 months. The project participants will become equipped with life skills, basic civic education, sexual reproductive health and hygiene information, and creative pursuits through song writing, photography, drama and dance, arts and crafts.

B. NON-FORMAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (NEP) The organization shall reach out to the young youth, women, girls/children, who have never attended school or has drop from schooling, to give them back the opportunity of having skill trainings in different aspect of life for a livelihood sustainability also shall introduce the non – formal school system. With experience in a mirror interview with some of these girls and women in the different communities tells that these categories of people are the majority victims some due to financial constrain, single parenting, early pregnancy and some due to traditional believes. In this view NYOCAMP shall work with these communities to introduce the NEP program. The NEP program is one of the primary activities of the organization and aim at re-integrating the formal educational system, skill training which will empower the young youth and women to have a better future. The NEP program operates as an umbrella in two categories; – (1) the formal educational system and (2) health and hygiene education civic and human rights education.

C. PARENTING AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (PARENT/CHILD DROP-IN CENTRE) This is a project that is meant to provide parents and children a safe and supportive environment to learn about issues that affect them separately. This project has been design to address problems affecting teen-parents and single parenting in the country. It is hope that within a period of 12 months 60 teenparents/ single parents would have been engaged in a non-formal setting, to learn: fundamentals of child care; food nutrition and hygiene for toddlers /infants; prevention of common diseases affecting toddlers/ infants; reproductive health, and livelihood skills trainings.

2. ADVOCACY; – A. NYOCAMP has special interest in advocacy and it is a top priority for the organization, the organization shall focus on having a network in two areas (1). In the academic’s field (schools etc.) and (2) the communities. In the schools there shall be a network in all schools within our operational areas that will coordinate, communicate and educate the general pupils in school and on issues that have to do with peace building, respect for culture, nonviolence and human rights issue that deals with them directly. (2). Engaging communities to speak up on behalf of their communities, the less privileges, (girls and women) etc., to respect the values of the land and for authorities and also have equal right and opportunity to all.

 B. YOUTH AND CHILDREN RADIO (YCR) This project has been developed to provide youth with radio enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in radio program development and production processes through learning with hands-on. The objective of this project is to provide youth with the opportunity to carry out advocacy on key human rights and governance issues of concern. Within a period of 18 months 4 teams of 6 youth both male and female would have gained knowledge and experience on: researching for radio program, investigating a radio story/ incident, radio serial drama development, technical aspect of studio/ radio production, script writing for radio, and Vox-Pop interviews. With the Youth and children Radio, it is hope that at the end of every 18 months’ period 24 youth would have been trained on radio production and series of radio shows produced for broadcast on Saturdays.

3. EMPOWERMENT A. INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) AND MEDIA TRAINING ICT has been a great challenge to the majority of our school leavers, graduate from the tertiary institutions and in the public schools also at the community at large. Before now ICT was more value to secretary and typist, but of the recent has become a major need for every aspect of life. NYOCAMP-SL shall involve and engage in ICT TRAINING on Microsoft programs for all our targeted communities and groups. This training will empower the young youth on job searching, writing their school work, expose them to solving their own problems and also build up their capacities and in inventing new ideas.

B. TECHNICAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES The high rate of crime, teenage pregnancy, school drop-out, prostitution etc. is on the alarm, in this view NYOCAMP -SL shall take the T.S.T.P program very seriously and shall become a priority to the organization. This means that, the organization shall increase opportunities for our young teenage, youth(women) to become self-reliance and be more independent in the society and their communities at large. Our targeted group(s) shall receive training in different skill raging from different technical skills, they shall also revive academics course and entrepreneurship skills
4. HEALTH AND REPRODUCTIVE CARE – Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The achievement of any State in the promotion and protection of health is of value to all. NYOCAMP – SL will help in complementing the effort of the government and agencies that work within and with issues that deals with health through community sensitization on health issue community dialogue with regards to drug abuse etc.
